Ok, that's nice and elegant and it might be a good solution for many. Input-Unison-Record FX-(recorded)-monitor FX-Mon Outs. They have to since what comes after is native. Is there a line with what will work in real time.or is this actually somehow possible in Luna? The low latency paths bypass everything that comes after them while armed. This seems like a long chain for low latency. Unison pre>UAD EQ 1>UAD Compressor>UAD UAD EQ 2>Tape Emu>Drum Summing Bus>Drum Bus Limiter>Main Summing Bus>Main Bus Limiter>Headphones I end up using way less individual track compressors and start to hear how everything fits together much earlier in the process.Īssuming there has to be some limits here, but a typical chain I would love to have with UA plugs in real time would be: This is one of the biggest things I have missed about working on an analog console is having some default bus compression while tracking.

Sorry if this is already buried in the 1000’s of posts already, but can someone answer me this:Ĭan you confirm that there is a low latency path (32ms or less) for:ġ) sending live recording multi tracks through a bus with UA plugs in real-time?Ģ) sending all tracks (including the live drum bus) to a main bus with more UA plugs while tracking? there comes a time where the processing overhead creates enough margin for the inferior stability becomes a non-issue for most situations)īut since the UAD platform is not truly DSP based either and neither does it run on a proprietary OS, it’s not as head and shoulders above the competition as they and their fans like to pretend it is.īut then you run into the ‘closed vs open’ question. (DSPs themselves are super robust, no doubt about it whereas native is more prone to issues but single core performance is getting really good and we're getting so many cores. Native wins in horsepower, stability wise it varies.

The ‘dynamic’ nature of native has its set of those too.īut now that the latency is no longer necessarily superior on one over the other, the main concern is horsepower and stability. The ‘fixed’ nature of DSP has its advantages and disadvantages. I saw no mention of it yet in the PT2020 announcement. What happened is they’ve rolled it out for ultimate native and HD Native (iirc) late last year, but ran into some issues for HDX. It was meant to squeeze some more juice out of the ageing HDX cards. You can see this issue with the enhanced voice count in PT ultimate that was announced. With native you can add whatever feature the CPU can compute. I’m not even sure HDX will have a DSP based successor.ĭSP hardware has the advantage to be reliably able to do whatever you want it to do when you build your system, but they don’t really scale/expand well in terms of adding features. They’d most likely have to launch new hardware to make that happen.

I doubt UAD Luna will evolve into a full DSP DAW Like PT with HDX. You will have fractions of a millisecond per plugin instance with plugin alliance and you get just as good of sound. It appears that we play quite an overlapping plethora of instruments, Charles! But at that point if you are working with that kind of artist, you should use the real hardware and rent a studio that has it so you can get that iconic sound.īut for 99.9% of the time you cant use this, I recommend plugin alliance as they have all the same plugins and they run off your CPU and not these 20 year old sharc ships. Only if you are working with a top artist and you absolutely need that exact tone on their vocal you know they are going to demand would you ever need this. The only reason I give it 2 stars is that this is the only way you get get certain special effects like reverb or chorus or other special processor for a vocal. UAD really needs to come out with a new card that allows for a lot less latency so the new generation will actually use this. The plugins sound good, but the latency ruins everything good about the card.

Loading up a few plugins will give you 100+ms latency and if you want to use all the processing power on the card and fill up the effects/processing rack your going to get 700+ms latency. If you want to use this card to the full potential, forget about it.
